Bio

Bob Baccus is a retired forester residing in Lufkin, Texas. Raised on the Contraband Bayou in Louisiana, exploring the woods and swamps, gave him an appreciation of wood, which led to a degree in Forestry and a career of managing the timberlands for a major timber company.

Bob has worked with wood for years, from high school shop to stocking hunting rifles and eventually to serious woodturning. Much of his wood comes from the forests of East Texas, where he has developed a variety of storage and drying techniques to preserve the integrity of the wood and prevent cracking and decay. Exotic tropical hardwoods are used as well, and each creation offers a combination of beauty and uniqueness.

Artist Statement

"Woodworking has become a passion, and I enjoy searching the forests for unique and salvageable woods. I have developed an array of new cutting tools, as well as finishing techniques to bring out the grain and color of a piece of art. Stains or dyes are seldom used, and each piece is typically hand-rubbed in a wax or lacquer finish.
