The creative process and its inherent spontaneity motivate Raymond Nordwall to paint, and the act of creation is where he feels most at home; it keeps him close to his mother who passed when he was nine. “Wonderment,” a selection of Nordwall’s new works infused with sentiment and inspiration, will display on August 9, and will remain on view during Santa Fe’s renowned Indian Market.
Upton Ethelbah became an artist late in life. At age 55, after a life-long career that included work at the Indian Pueblo Council and at the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Ethelbah hadn’t received any formal art training. Now, at age 70, Ethelbah has become a seasoned sculptor with an extensive catalogue of works that infuse tribal wisdom and symbolism into sweeping, flowing forms of sculpture depicting the energy and fluid movement of performing native dancers.
